If you lose access to your two-factor authentication (2FA) method—whether it’s your email OTP or authenticator app—you can regain access to your Symbol Security account using a one-time recovery code.
What Is a Recovery Code?
-
A unique 8-character alphanumeric code generated when you first enable 2FA.
-
Single-use only: once used, it becomes invalid.
-
Disables 2FA temporarily: after successful login, you’ll need to set up 2FA again.
How to Save Your Recovery Code
When you first activate 2FA, Symbol Security will prompt you to:
-
Download the recovery code (
.txt
file) OR copy it manually. -
Store it securely (e.g., password manager, encrypted storage, or printed backup).
-
⚠️ Do not save it in easily accessible places (email, notes app, or cloud storage without encryption).
-
How to Use a Recovery Code
If you’re locked out of your account:
-
Go to the Symbol Security Login page
-
Enter your email and password as usual.
-
When prompted for a 2FA code, click "Use Recovery Code".
-
Enter your 8-digit alphanumeric recovery code.
-
Click "Verify".
What Happens Next?
✅ You’ll be logged in successfully.
🔒 2FA will be disabled (you must re-enable it from your Security Settings for continued protection).
