Paused Users on Symbol Security

What are paused users? What does that mean?

Pause User is a feature in Symbol that offers the capability of restricting access for your users to the User Portal while keeping them in your roster.

Why pause a user? What's the difference?

Pausing a user offers several advantages: temporary inactivity management, data preservation for potential recovery, and maintaining organizational structure. Paused users won't receive any notifications or assignments, they won't also have access to the User Portal so they cannot take courses or sign policies.

EntraID Synchronization

If you have your company synchronized with EntraID, the users' account status will be scanned after approval. Once the user has been approved, the application will scan the user's status on EntraID and will mark it as paused/unpaused automatically.

NOTE: You cannot update the users' status manually in the application when they are synced.

Steps to pause/unpause a user?

  1. Navigate to the User List
Log in to your Symbol Security account and go to the Users page.

  2. Select the User(s)
    1. You can choose one or more users by clicking the checkbox
    2. Click on the "three-dots" button at the right
  3. Click on “Pause”
From the dropdown menu, click on the "Pause" or "Unpause" option. This will reload the page, and you will see an indicator next to the user's name.

  4. And that’s it!
Your user(s) is(are) now paused, they will be kept part of the system.

Important Details to Keep in Mind

  • User Assignments/Notifications
Paused users won't receive any training simulation emails, training assignments, policies assignments, or notification emails.

  • Multiple Memberships
If your Symbol Account is also an Admin Account, only the User Membership will be deactivated. You can still use the Admin Portal as normal.

  • Billing
Paused users remain part of your user roster, which means they will continue to incur charges on your next invoice.
