Outlook "Report a Phish" Button v2

Symbol's 'Report a Phish' button for reporting emails

Symbol Security's Report a Phish (RAP), otherwise know as our "Report a Phish" button is available with some new enhancements.

The workflow for installing this Outlook Add-In has changed from previous versions, and the user experience when reporting an email was slightly modified to match the current Microsoft requirements.

Existing users of Report a Phish:

  • It is highly recommended that all existing users who have not updated to the new version of Report a Phish remove the current Add-in and upload the new version of the Outlook Manifest. This ensures an optimal user experience. For detailed instructions, please refer to Step 2 in the article: How to Configure Report a Phish on Outlook
  • If a user encounters the message below when reporting an email, the current Outlook Manifest needs to be removed and a new Add-in uploaded. Please follow Step 2 in the article: How to Configure Report a Phish on Outlook

New users to Report a Phish:

  • If you haven't installed it before, you can obtain the manifest file from the "Report a Phish" section in your company or MSP settings. Once you've located the manifest file, follow Steps 1 through 3 in the article, How to Configure Report a Phish on Outlook, to upload it to Microsoft.

The Report a Phish User Experience

When reporting an email using the new version of the manifest, users will need to grant permissions to Symbol thru a required Microsoft log in using their Outlook credentials.  This is a one-time action and it grants access to Symbol to operate the Report a Phish Button within the user mailbox.

When prompted, and the user has logged into Outlook and accepted the permissions, they will see the Outlook sidebar exactly as it's being shown when using previous versions of our Report a Phish Button (example below).

Note: In utilizing the Report a Phish Button, Users only need to authenticate and grant permissions to Outlook once (unless they revoke these permissions from the Microsoft/Outlook settings).

  • Web App - Latest 2 major browser versions.
  • Windows Desktop App - Office 2016 and higher.
